This Open Cluster lying in the constellation Carina
is visible with the naked eye.
NGC 3532 was discovered in 1751-1752 by
Abbe Lacaille from South Africa.
This object may also be known as C 91 (Caldwell).
Caldwell is the middle name of sir Patrick Caldwell Moore. Not being
able to use his last name due to the letter M already being taken
by Messier, he decided to use his middle name.
The Caldwell Catalogue covers objects that Messier did not list.
There is a total of 109 objects in the Caldwell catalogue.
